It turns out Vivian once signed a family soul contract with four monsters in the Vale House dungeon, and in her search for them, she was hunted down and disfigured by the four great Hunters' Guilds. Floor by floor she descends through the hotel, helping the sacrificed opera bride, the forgotten pumpkin-headed child, the disgraced portrait girl, the apprentice guarding herbal knowledge, the abandoned toy room orphans, the lace girl betrayed by her friends, and the servant spirit hunted by nobles as prey. In the end, she discovers that the true core of the hotel is not slaughter—but the healing of souls forgotten by the world.
