In a world woven of ice and flame, Seraphine, a Scaleless, is forced to take the place of her half-sister Vesper and marry Kael, the Dragon Lord of the brutal Ember Crown clan, in order to save her family. Though cold on the surface, Kael recognizes her as the one who saved him ten years ago and guards her with his very life. Seraphine awakens the lost Veil of Frost bloodline, is rescued by her birth mother Isolde and a mysterious tribe, and learns the power of the Dragon Tongue. To save the imprisoned Kael, she returns to the battlefield. In the end, together they defeat the usurper Theron, ending the hatred between the clans and the persecution of the Scaleless. On the sea cliff, they exchange eternal vows, ushering in a new age where dragons and the Scaleless coexist.
