Under the belief that 'there are no ghosts in the world,' top psychologist Lin Ling uses hypnosis to solve numerous bizarre cases. She accepts a commission from her mentor, Li Wenyun, to treat Wen Qin, a professor of mysticism who claims he can 'see ghosts,' firmly believing his symptoms stem from childhood trauma.
Through hypnosis, Lin Ling guides Wen Qin to 'recall' a tragic past of being framed by his parents and younger brother, and ultimately abandoned in a mental hospital, explaining his 'ghost sightings' with scientific theories. However, Wen Qin immediately launches a counterattack, reverse-hypnotizing Lin Ling and forcing her to confront the trauma of her entire family perishing in a fire due to her mistake during childhood.
After Lin Ling's psychological defenses weaken, Wen Qin peels back layers to reveal her deeper secrets: after the fire, she was seen as a 'Jinx' and sent to 'Pingxing Mental Hospital.' Under Wen Qin's guidance and the pressure of information from 'departed souls,' Lin Ling finally admits under hypnosis that she not only caused the fire through negligence but also carried out a poisoning revenge at the mental hospital. She self-hypnotized, changed her identity, and became the psychologist Lin Ling, a firm believer in a 'world without ghosts,' to escape culpability.
