In the divine domain of Olympus, the five-year sacred marriage between Goddess Elara and Ariston, God of Wealth, is steeped in unending grief. Ariston's heart lingers on his mortal first love Calliope, and he placates his neglected wife with the hollow gesture of erecting a hundred temples.
After ninety-nine times of forgiving him, Elara uses the Scroll of Severed Bonds to dissolve this ill-starred marriage. She turns her back on Olympus without hesitation and travels to the remote Far North.
Along her journey, she crosses paths with Iasion, a gentle and earnest demigod. His constant guardianship and sincere devotion restore warmth to her wounded heart.
It is only once Elara is gone that Ariston learns to value what he had. He cuts all ties with his old lover and pursues her ceaselessly, pleading remorsefully for reconciliation, yet he can never win back Elara's affections.
In the end, Elara embraces a new life of happiness and lives in quiet companionship with Iasion. The once lofty God of Wealth is left to pay an everlasting price for his own coldhearted cruelty.
