Chen Changsheng and Bai Jingjing were a loving couple who ran a candle shop for a living. One rainy night, a tyrannical landlord lured Changsheng away and then assaulted Jingjing. In a fit of anger, Jingjing jumped into a candle pool and turned into bones. Changsheng then became a Buddhist monk. Jingjing, now a skeleton, was transformed into a demon by a spider demon.
