Waking up from a three-year vegetative state, Elara Sutton finds the familiar world has completely changed. The residents of her community collectively sleepwalk at night like string puppets. Everyone tells her that the people around her have been 'replaced' by some kind of non-human entity. To find answers, she must step into the terrifying nest of writhing mycelium and fused consciousness that everyone is guiding her towards.
