Salem Shears, the only son of the Northern Prince, has spent the last five years as an Arbiter in the underworld after his untimely death. However, a blood letter from his close friend Luke Montford pulls him back to the mortal realm. His son, Castiel Norton, has been imprisoned as a pet by Empress Cleo Norton's male concubine, Everett York. With rebellion near, Salem made a deal with Yama for three days of life. He rose, reclaimed the command token, and joined Luke to besiege the city. Infiltrating the palace, he witnessed Castiel's suffering and the Empress's seemingly indifferent tolerance. Salem rallied loyalists and summoned spirits to expose the York brothers' scheme and his past poisoning. Empress Cleo revealed her endurance had been a ploy to protect her son. As justice was served, Salem's borrowed time ended, entrusting the command token and his son to the Empress and returning to the afterlife at dawn.
