While vacationing on an island, young Callie is caught in a violent storm and abducted to a secluded isle by Atlas, a merman. Atlas harbors deep hatred toward humans for the death of his mother, yet he gradually falls for Callie as they live side by side.
He takes human form during tidal phases, and the two heal each other’s wounds, falling in love along the way. Atlas builds a wooden raft to send her back to the human world. Callie spends decades building a career and starting a family in her life ashore. In her twilight years, she returns to the island and reunites with Atlas, who has waited faithfully for her and grown old with time. She chooses to stay by his side for all eternity.
