Richie and Lila were childhood sweethearts. But when they were kids, Lila was injured and lost in a kidnapping case in order to save Richie. When Richie grows up, he is forced to marry Sophia in order to find the missing Lila. However, due to various misunderstandings, he fails to recognize Sophia as his childhood friend Lila. Sophia is bullied in Richie's home, including being set up by Daphne and misunderstood by Richie. As the series progresses, Richie discovers the truth, but it's too late, and Sophia commits suicide in despair. In his grief, Richie avenges Sophia's death by destroying Daphne's family, and ultimately misses Sophia in his loneliness.
