Yet Evelyn's betrayal tore up the peace treaty between humans and vampires, turning human cities into a living hell. Alonso rescued Katia, but begged her never to come between him and Evelyn again. Heartbroken, Katia was reborn at the very moment when the choice of who would be sacrificed was to be made. She resolved to take Evelyn's place and offer herself to the vampires as a blood servant. Desperate, he allied himself with the werewolves and launched a war to seize Katia, only to suffer a crushing defeat in the end. Katia was turned into a vampire, and spent an eternal happy life alongside Lestat.
