Regent Prince Adrian Channing, investigating a court conspiracy, disguises as his mute sister and marries Jhin Shaw, Warlord of the Northern Marches. Jhin Shaw sees through his disguise; they develop feelings amidst schemes and power struggles. Adrian is moved by Jhin Shaw's devotion. Adrian takes an arrow for Jhin Shaw; Jhin Shaw is wounded for him. Adrian quells strife, rejects the throne, choosing Jhin Shaw. They marry again for a happy ending.
