In the rain-shrouded town of Blackwood, Oregon, 24-year-old biology PhD student Elena is forced to be auctioned off at an underground auction house in Portland's docks because her adoptive father has racked up massive gambling debts. The Thorne family operates a multinational timber business, but their true identities are an ancient vampire clan that inhabits the area.
