On the irradiated Mojave wasteland after nuclear winter, uncontaminated water and clean serum are the only hard currencies that decide life or death. The settlement’s newfound wealth attracts a combined siege from greedy relatives and wasteland bandits and falls victim to a poisoning setup by a rival female scavenger leader. Meanwhile, deep in the ruins, Erin saves Silas, the former federal chief gunsmith, who is dying from radiation-induced lung disease. When external constables forcibly try to take Silas back to the city, Erin publicly buys his freedom with entire crates of pure water, declaring absolute control over him.
