For five years, Esther has been trapped in an abusive marriage. Her husband, Carl, cheated on her, was physically violent, and indirectly caused the death of their daughter. On their fifth wedding anniversary, during another violent confrontation, Carl dies accidentally. In shock, Esther buries his body in the backyard and goes to sleep.
