Ruth Howard is feared by many as the ""Snake Woman,"" with rumors claiming she has a snake’s tail and brings death to anyone involved with her. Although she's inherited a vast fortune, people avoid her—except Kurt Foster, who pursues and protects her, unafraid of the rumors.
Only later does Ruth discover that everything is actually orchestrated by Kurt’s mentally ill twin brother, Kevin Foster, who wants to isolate and monopolize her, and that Kurt approaches her because he suspects his brother’s intentions and wants to uncover the truth. In the process, Ruth and Kurt gradually develop genuine feelings for each other.
